Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued a weather warning for rain, strong winds and thunderstorms from October 10 to 15, with hail possible in some areas and light snowfall forecast over mountainous parts of the province.
The PDMA said a new westerly weather system is expected to move into the upper parts of Pakistan from Saturday, bringing unsettled conditions to several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The authority has directed district administrations and emergency services to take precautionary measures ahead of the expected weather.
Strong winds and hail could cause damage
According to the PDMA, strong winds and hail may damage weak structures, billboards, electricity poles and solar panels.
District authorities have been instructed to monitor rivers, streams and seasonal waterways during the rainfall and ensure drainage systems are cleared in advance.
Officials have also been asked to keep roads open for traffic and ensure rescue agencies and relevant departments remain prepared for possible emergencies.
The PDMA’s Provincial Emergency Operations Centre is monitoring the situation.
Travellers and farmers advised to take precautions
The authority has advised tourists and other travellers to avoid unnecessary journeys during periods of severe weather, particularly in mountainous areas.
People have also been urged to remain in safe locations during thunderstorms and stay away from electricity poles and overhead wires.
Farmers and livestock owners have been advised to take precautions to protect crops and animals from possible rainfall and hail.
The warning comes as forecasts indicate unsettled weather across parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the coming days, with rain-wind thunderstorms expected at isolated locations across the province.
In case of an emergency, the public can contact the PDMA toll-free helpline at 1700.
